I ended up rearranging the furniture a bit in our bedroom and I am really happy with the results. I now have enough room for everything on my table next to bed, including my new glass carafe. I even had enough room to put one of the chairs with the plum fabric chair cover. It looks great and really changes the look of the room. Always more to do but every little change is nice. Of course I found more stuff to get rid of as well.
I also remembered a hand-work project started a long-time ago that I can work on again. It is a yo-yo quilt. I have lots of fabric and all the stuff I need to work on it. Currently I have been working on cutting up all the remaining fabric I have into little circles. After that is all done I will start sewing them. Who knows I might actually finish all thousands of circles sometime in the next 5 years.
I have been craving real homemade mashed potatoes for some time now. Devin does not like them so I tend not to make them much at all. I have been wanting to try roasting a whole chicken in the crockpot for a while now and was waiting for whole chickens to go on sale again. Well when I hit the store last they were definitely on sale for 79cents a pound. I picked one up and put it into the crockpot. That sounds so simple when it was actually much more involved than that. When I went to put it into the crockpot I discovered that Alaric had helpfully put it into the freezer for me. So several hours of cold baths later it made it into the crockpot. The chicken turned out wonderful. To go with the roast chicken I made mashed potatoes and gravy (from scratch!), rice for Devin, cornbread with buttermilk, and green beans. It was awesome. The best part was being able to take all the leftovers to have lunch with a friend today.
Alaric had a field trip on Wednesday to the police station and the firestation. It was really cute and a lot of fun. We have lived here for 8 years in our town and I believe that was the first time I have ever been all the way through either place. I have been to the lobby of the police station but never went to any of the open houses before. The firestation was really a lot of fun as the principal’s son works there and gave the tour. The kids finished off their in-depth tour of the firestation with a ride on a firetruck. Alaric got to ride on the big ladder truck and he thought it was just awesome! I also got to observe some rather interesting things about how he interacts with the other kids in his class. We now have a few things he is working on.
Also today I helped a friend paint her living room. It was a ton of fun as I don’t get to do that kind of thing very often. We decided to start working on projects together at least once a week. I am loving our time together as she is one of my closest friends so we always end up talking a ton. Going back tomorrow to finish the second coat.
The weekend is looking pretty full so far. Friends coming over tomorrow evening and staying a couple of days. The church’s annual meeting after church Sunday. The memorial service Sunday late afternoon. Plus some house stuff in there somewhere. It should be a good weekend but definitely full.
